Introduction to the Information Profession (LIS 6010)
This artifact is an essay discussing an ethical dilemma in a case study. According to the Student Learning Outcomes, it is important for the professional to “articulate the importance and value of the profession and its basic ethics such as intellectual freedom, information access and dissemination and apply these concepts to the advancement of the profession.” This case study forced me to evaluate and think critically about an ethical issue in the library profession. I gained familiarity of using resources such as those supplied as course material as well as finding pertinent sources to this assignment. I have clearly developed ideas and supporting material.

Information Technology (LIS 6080)
This artifact is a budget proposal for a specialized, hi-tech corporate library. The project simulated a real-world scenario requiring the use of proper budgeting skills and the knowledge of computer hardware, peripherals, operating systems, and software. This assignment also utilized basic Microsoft Word skills, such as creating a table of contents, modifying bullet lists, embedding external links and bookmarks within a word document, and the creation of a table. This assignment allowed me to apply prior budgeting knowledge to a new environment, while still obtaining an effective learning outcome.

Access to Information (LIS 6120)
This artifact is an essay discussing my observation of reference services at a community college library. I learned that for many reasons, such as reductions in budget allocation, the layout of the library or knowledge center, and the morale of staff, have an effect on information access and dissemination. While observing, I was able to apply the reference interview and have hands on experience with virtual reference services. This reinforces the notion that information professionals must “understand the interactions between societal factors (e.g. cultural, economic, political) and information environments” and “Facilitate access to, use of, and communication between information resources and information users” (Student Learning Outcomes, 2014).

Organization of Knowledge (LIS 6210)
This artifact is an exercise in classifying and identifying the fields in MARC Records, proving to be good practice in evaluating bibliographic records and application of descriptive cataloging. In line with the Student Learning Outcomes, this assignment enhanced my “understanding and application of multiple and emerging approaches to the organization of knowledge, published literatures, and records”.

Library Administration and Management (LIS 7040)
This artifact is a final essay applying managerial and leadership theories to employee motivation and retention. It is important for the information professional to “develop and apply current management and leadership theories and practices” (Student Learning Outcomes, 2014). I examined several managerial and leadership theories gathered from coursework and outside readings, and applied previous experience to develop a solution to increase employee motivation and retention.

Research in Library and Information Science (LIS 7996)
This artifact is a research proposal. According to the Student Learning Outcomes, it is necessary for the information professional to “read, evaluate, and apply library and information science research to problems of professional practice employing theories, best practices, and assessment strategies to the range of information functions.” I gained comprehension in the different research design methods, data collection strategies, and data analysis tools. I learned the importance of performing research and necessity of it for the advancement of the information profession.

Information Behavior (LIS 7500)
This artifact is a literature review discussing gaming and information literacy. I provide an analysis of information seeking behaviors found in gamers and how the recognition of these behaviors can be used to encourage information literacy. This assignment is an example how societal factors and information environments interact and how these interactions can be translated into other environments.

Introduction to Health Informatics and e-Science (LIS 7620)
This artifact is a discussion of a case for new data services. According to the Student Learning Outcomes, it is necessary for the information professional to “adopt and utilize the most relevant information technologies”. In this assignment, I make the case for employing data collaboration services. There is a consumer trend in applying technologies to further research. I identify the need for new data services and create a several-step implementation plan. I gained a different perspective on information services and how to progress for better information access.

Seminar in Information Policy (LIS 8000)
This artifact is an analysis of local information policies and how they affect myself as a graduate student. It is important to be able to “identify the significance of intellectual property, security, and privacy issues” (Student Learning Outcomes, 2014). I established my own understanding of information policy and its effects on individuals by evaluating different sources of information policies. I identified gaps in policy where information security and privacy became questionable and sought better answers. I also found and suggested areas of improvement. My awareness and sensitivity of these topics has grown allowing me to further develop as an information professional.
